BIP-39 mnemonic in Counterwallet

I recently participated in a hackathon and tried to develop a Counterparty app and ran into many problems.

So I decided to ask each one-by-one in these threads.

My first question is:

We generated our mnemonics according to BIP-39, but later found out that we could not double check our addresses in wallet.counterwallet.io, because counterwallet uses an entirely different mnemonic standard.

What is the purpose of using this Counterparty mnemonic standard and what is it called?

Counterparty existed before BIP-39 was created, that is why Counterwallet and counterparty wallets do not use BIP39.
